League of Legends Player Communications

League of Legends is a competitive video game in which players strategically choose characters and items to fight against others in 30-45 minute team battles. Every two weeks, the game development team analyzes data from over 100 million monthly active players to “balance” the characters and items in the game. My primary responsibility as the Communications Specialist was to create the release notes that effectively explain these technical changes in an approachable, playful tone. These patch notes are some of the most widely read articles in the gaming industry and have a very strict timeline in order to meet localization and QA demands for over 17 languages.

In addition to owning the patch notes, I also collaborated closely with a diverse set of stakeholders to produce other player-facing developer blogs about topics ranging from client framework updates, trust and safety, and even cosplay guides!

Public Research Articles

During my time at UW, I wanted to make my lab’s research accessible for the general public. The following are a select few articles that I wrote or edited to highlight our findings with an emphasis on approachable language. You can access the rest of my academic publications through Google Scholar below.
